I've also run into this issue and it's a real problem for our company. Not being able to use bridging is a real bummer.
We'd like to deploy a libvirt/KVM solution using Ubuntu, but it's just not possible with such core functionality missing. Just for kicks, I tried to rebuild the libvirt package to include netcf, but there doesn't seem to be a netcf package for karmic...
