I have removed "linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic" & installed the
crack-of-the-day alsa-driver (including the linux-alsa-driver-modules
package) but jack-sensing (if that is what it is called) is still not
working on a HP HDX9000.

Jack-sensing is working on another laptop with a different intel-hda
codec, so I don't think it is something that I am doing wrong. Is there
any further info that would help with this issue?
