** Description changed: Mapnik is one of the main tools used in GIS in both server side and client side (thanks to the different bindings). Currently the version included in the repository is the 0.6.1, but 0.7.0 is out for some time and it would be great to have it included in lucid due the LTS aspect of that release. In fact 0.7.0 is (quoting upstream), "essentially 0.6.2 in spirit, but we have to increment the ABI because C++ is a bit touchy". We can also rely on a very present, and active upstream that is following bugs directly in launchpad and I have very good intreactions with them. The 0.7.0 fixes a lot of bugs that are present in the 0.6.1, as stated in the diff of the Upstream's Changelog. + + + The examples that are present in the ubuntu packages, which are provided by upstream, tests the main features of mapnik, they are of course successfully building and running using 0.7.0.
