I'm having trouble testing this as well, because DVD menus are broken (this was working when I filed the bug). Is there a bug open about that? I tested by manually pointing totem at a .VOB file with 5.1 audio, and it did produce sound, at least until I tried to seek. When I tried to seek, playback stopped entirely, and the totem window stopped responding (had to force quit).
