E:
/var/cache/apt/archives/libx264-85_2%3a0.85.1442.1+git781d30-1_i386.deb:
trying to overwrite '/usr/lib/libx264.so.85', which is also in package
libx264-83 2

regardless of what video, codec packages I try to install or deinstall,
this is the error.

It started with the update manager installing new video apps and,
libx264-85 which cannot install.

Trying to fix the dependencies only tightened the knot.

"sudo apt-get update" or "install" "purge" or "sudo dpkg -a
--configure" only made it worse.

sudo dpkg -i -B did not work.

The error cannot be solved, without deinstalling most of the video
related apps.

At times one can delete or rename the offending older packages and the
newer package will be installed.

But not in this case. libavcodec-extra-52 libx264-dev are the broken
dependencies. "Fix Broken Packages"

does not resolve the issues. Perhaps there is a magic command line that
could work, but I have not learned

enough commands to repair this problem. It seems, that every video app
is dependent on another one that all

apps have in common. This no doubt will effect all users of Lucid-alpha
as they attempt to upgrade (update).

I have confidence, that the Ubuntu masters can fix this!

BavarianPH,

Ubuntu forever!
