I also have very similar problem, this is whats happening :::I can use my 
p-word in terminal with no problem. I can not access-Network-Users and 
Groups-Synaptic Package Manager or any thing else that requires a p-word. As I 
have stated earlier, a strange new p-word window opens when trying to access 
above mentioned apps. The p-word window says the following::Enter the 
administrative password, then it says:: The application 'users-admin' lets you 
modify essential parts of your system. then the space is there for p-word, then 
it has a check box for Remember Password::[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ gconftool --get 
/apps/gksu/sudo-mode
false
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$
