Colin, the file is called 'xubuntu-9.10-alternate-i386.iso', and the
content of 'README.diskdefines' is:

#define DISKNAME  Xubuntu 9.10 "Karmic Koala" - Release i386
#define TYPE  binary
#define TYPEbinary  1
#define ARCH  i386
#define ARCHi386  1
#define DISKNUM  1
#define DISKNUM1  1
#define TOTALNUM  0
#define TOTALNUM0  1

And for '.disk/info':
Xubuntu 9.10 "Karmic Koala" - Release i386 (20091028.3)

I checked again, and there really are NO 'debian-installer' sub-
directories in there!

I will try to download a newer version from my new workplace. Is it
possible that older versions shipped without the correct file structure,
and that the error has been corrected since?

Thank you very much, for looking into this!
