Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubiquity
Booted Lucid Alpha 3 liveCD, then clicked to install. Selected Erase and use the entire disk from the partition manager during setup. install continued without problems until it tried to find other oses on the drive. Then blkid and ubiquity showed no progress for at least 5 minutes, while consuming 50% cpu each. The running blkid command was blkid -o value -s TYPE /dev/sda2 and sda2 is the extended partition from the partition manager: fdisk -l Disk /dev/sda: 200.0 GB, 200049647616 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 24321 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Sector size (logical / optimal IO): 512 bytes / 512 bytes Disk identifier: 0x000a28f7 Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sda1 1 23330 187398193+ 83 Linux /dev/sda2 23331 24321 7960207+ 5 Extended /dev/sda5 23331 24321 7960176 82 Linux swap / Solaris so I killed the blkid process and ubiquity picked up again, this time it went to updating grub, and again blkid hung at the same command: blkid -o value -s TYPE /dev/sda2 for several more minutes. I killed that process again, and ubiquity finished, and reported no errors. This is an older drive, with linux previously installed, which booted fine just prior to the new install. I am 50/50 on whether it is a drive error or a software problem, so I will continue to look into it.
