Three things to note:
1. The amixer output appears to correspond to your /playing/ the wave
file, not the /capturing/ from external mic. As a result, I can't tell
what's wrong. Likewise, your codec output corresponds to playing instead
of capturing. I'll need the contents of /proc/asound/card*/codec*
(manual cat) while you're attempting to capture from the external mic.
2. The front mic playback toggle is muted. Please adjust this
accordingly.
3. Please reproduce with linux-alsa-driver-modules-2.6.32-14-generic
from ppa:ubuntu-audio-dev if (2) is unsuccessful.
Please label and attach /proc/asound/card*/codec* contents for runs (2)
and (3).
