@frlet888: the fact that you can set the side pane to zero width is already the subject of bug 296564. I just created a new bug 529005 for the fact that the View -> Reset View to Defaults menu item has no effect on the side pane. If you can confirm that the details of that bug are correct, I can then forward it upstream and we'll see if anything comes out of it.
