creating a file /etc/udev/rules.d/root.rules with the content for the
root device as found in /proc/self/mountinfo similar to the following
fixes the bug:
SUBSYSTEM=="block", ENV{MAJOR}=="8", ENV{MINOR}=="0", SYMLINK+="root"
