Hi Dierre
   I think this is due to your video out setting of gmplayer being set to xmga. 

Launch gmplayer (type gmplayer in a terminal), and right-click the main
window, choosing Preferences. In the video tab, note that the top option
is highlighted (xmga). This doesn't work with all systems.

Try changing it to 'gl' or 'gl2', clicking 'OK' and try playing your
video again. You might need to close gmplayer, then reopen it, for the
change to take effect

I get the same error message as you if I leave it set as xmga
