Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

In /var/log/daemon.log I see:

-> 7 (reason 0)

lease-file][-pf pid-file] [-e VAR=val]
Mar 3 11:21:32 mybox dhclient: [-sf script-file] [interface]

When I strace the NetworkManager process I see:

[pid 3924] execve("/sbin/dhclient", ["/sbin/dhclient", "-d", "-4",
"-sf", "/usr/lib/NetworkManager/nm-dhcp-"..., "-pf", "/var/run/dhclient-
wlan0.pid", "-lf", "/var/lib/dhcp3/dhclient-3bbca12b"..., "-cf",
"/var/run/nm-dhclient-wlan0.conf", "wlan0"], [/* 7 vars */]) = 0

There's no such parameter as -4 for dhclient

Description: network management framework daemon
NetworkManager attempts to keep an active network connection available at all
times. It is intended only for the desktop use-case, and is not
intended for usage on servers. The point of NetworkManager is to make
networking configuration and setup as painless and automatic as
possible. If using DHCP, NetworkManager is _intended_ to replace default
routes, obtain IP addresses from a DHCP server, and change
 nameservers whenever it sees fit.

This package provides the userspace daemons.

Description: DHCP client
This is the client from version 3 of the Internet Software Consortium's
implementation of DHCP. For more information visit
 http://www.isc.org.

Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is a protocol like BOOTP (actually
dhcpd includes much of the functionality of bootpd). It gives
client machines "leases" for IP addresses and can automatically set their
network configuration. If your machine depends on DHCP (especially
likely if it's a workstation on a large network, or a laptop, or attached to a
cable modem), keep this or another DHCP client installed.

Extra documentation can be found in the package dhcp3-common.
