I have the same problem on Karmic with using a remote IPP printer queue that requires authentication.
The IPP username is not the same as my local username, so I have to change the username as well as enter the password for every printout. Neither password nor username is remembered, even if I check "Remember Password" in the dialog (/usr/share/system-config-printer/authconn.py).
