I have just unistalled and reinstalled netbeans using apt-get and had no 
problem, but I have not been able to try it on a clean system like when I 
originally got the error message, cant remember how I ended up installing it, 
sorry.

Sorry I have not been more responsive, have been extremely busy with
work.
