@Colin: Ok, thanks for clearing that up. I'm also glad to see that Canonical finally understands that it isn't always the best option to bluntly *hide* grub2. Animated grub2 + plymouth (+ KMS - capable graphics drivers) + gnome 3.x / kde 4.x = a very nice desktop experience =)
