Binary package hint: apt
1. Use apt-get from the command line to install any package, e.g. "sudo apt-get
install mplayer-nogui"
2. Look at the progress output:
96% [12 mplayer-nogui 2931267/3523kB 83%]
On the left hand side of the amount downloaded it appears to be using
bytes, and on the right hand side it appears to be using kB. Yes, you
can circumvent it by chopping off the last 3 digits in your head, but
there's still no reason for it to be like that. It's inconsistent with
every other app I've ever used, which reports amount downloaded and
total file size in the same units, with the exception of sometimes
starting with bytes and moving to KB once at least 1KB has been
downloaded, moving to MB once 1MB is downloaded, etc. etc. which would
also be acceptable.
