Actually, seems that some upgrade at some point has fixed this, because now when tested the same apt-get methods over ssh (with -v, -vv and without), everything works just fine. I had done some apt-get upgrade straight from after submitting this bug. Strangely, the versions of apt and ssh are still the same.
So, I would say that the problem caused by some other package and therefore this bug is invalid at this point.
