Hmm, that's strange:

And in /var/log/messages I get no mesgs between end of upgrade and the reboot
I've tried 40 min later.
I've also rsync 3.2 MB of 1.4.1-5ubuntu2.2 to / without IO errors before the
downgrade.
I'll retry the upgrade again next Monday when I'm again in the office.
