I was finally able to boot my laptop with live CD Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit 2010 Mar. 3, by going to F6 (options) and turning off the first three options. My USB started working. This is of course a work around, but I have not been able to get usb to work at all with Ubuntu 9.10.
