I also have an aspire one, and for me, suspend appears to almost complete - screen goes black, but backlight and power light remain on. I can successfully suspend and resume from gdm on the initial boot, but not from the desktop. Also, if I log in and log back out, I can no longer suspend successfully from GDM (screen freezes without going black).
