Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: apt
This is a wishlist/bug in apt-p2p.
Currently, apt-p2p is not very well know; its only known by people who have
been working with ubuntu long enough.
I believe that there should be an option in the "software source" of gnome to
use apt-p2p to make users informed that they have this option.
Apt-p2p is important in the fact that it decreases the load on the
ubuntu-servers, especially during upgrades.
If more people use it, apt-p2p can possibly become more popular, and therefore
more packages would be able to be downloaded using it.
In addition, Apt-p2p should have a "fallback after timeout option" where
it falls back to the ubuntu repository after waiting for a set amount of
time (timeout). This ensures that the packages/repository that the user
was trying to download will be downloaded, and will be added to the apt-
p2p pool. The next user will then have more chance of downloading the
package/repository from apt-p2p. This also prevents users from getting
hung on certain repositories where there are not many peers.
** Affects: apt (Ubuntu)
