Ubuntu release: Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala 64 bit - Kubuntu - "Ubuntu,
Linux 2.6.31-20-generic"

What was expected to happen: full graphic mode on start-up after having
chosen the kernel version "Ubuntu, Linux 2.6.31-20-generic"

What happened instead: the following window appeared:
   "Ubuntu is running in low-graphics mode.
    The following error was encountered. You may need to update your 
configuration to solve this.
   (EE) NVIDIA: Failed to load the NVIDIA kernel module. Please check your 
system's kernel log for additional error messages.
   (EE) Failed to load module "nvidia" (module-specific error, 0)
   (EE) No drivers available"

Additional informations:
- this bug appeared on first run of version "Ubuntu, Linux 2.6.31-20-generic" 
and at each following run;
- running back the previous version "Ubuntu, Linux 2.6.31-19-generic" did not 
induce this bug; full graphic mode and KDE  desktop appeared as expected and 
the system was fully operational;
- graphic card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280M
- graphic card driver: NVIDIA 190.53 (NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-190.53-pk2.run file 
downloaded from NVIDIA internet support site); again, no issue when running 
this driver with the previous versions "Ubuntu, Linux 2.6.31-19-generic" or 
lower;
- PC: Clevo Notebook W870CU
