More debugging information is needed, please follow the steps below.
1. Make sure no CD or DVD is in your drive.
2. Open a terminal and run the following commands:
$ killall gnome-volume-manager
$ gnome-volume-manager -n 2>&1 | tee gvm.log
3. Put a CD in the drive.
4. Wait a few seconds.
5. Press Control-C in the terminal to stop the foreground gnome-volume-manager.
6. $ lshal > lshal.txt
7. $ dmesg > dmesg.txt
8. $ ls -l /dev/hd* > devices.txt
9. Attach gvm.log, lshal.txt, devices.txt and dmesg.txt to the bug report.
10. Press Alt-F2 and type gnome-volume-manager to get your background g-v-m
back (or just log out and back in again).
11. Paste the output of the following commands into the bug report:
$ id
$ id hal
$ id haldaemon
Repeat steps 1-10 by putting a DVD in your drive.
