Just a note: I installed Lucid alpha3 on my computer and with the latest Firefox (delivered by default) and the latest Adobe-Flash-plugin the flickering is practically gone, for me. This must be due to some changes introduced in Lucid - since videos from the the same homepages (mostly Arte7+) are still flickering with Ubuntu 9.10. I wonder which change/component was responsible (kernel, X-11, firefox, video-driver, Flash-Plugin - or some compile options?)
