Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: acpi-support

Hi, I'm running Kubuntu Feisty, and hibernating my computer corrupts my
BIOS.

Here's what happens. When I click hibernate, the shutdown process works
completely, no errors. However, when I turn the computer back on, it
hangs during POST. I can press DEL and the words "Entering Setup..."
appear, but nothing happens. Pressing reset button or powering it off
and back on doesn't help; it just sits there, completely dead.

To get it to boot again, I have to reach back and physically unplug the
computer or switch the power supply off and back on. In other words I
have to actually cut power to the motherboard. When I plug it back in
and turn it on, I get "Overclocking Failed!". I then press F2 to restore
my BIOS to defaults, the machine boots and... resumes from hibernation
perfectly. It's actually kind of funny, after the initial worry of
frying my motherboard wears off.

Here are my specs:

Asus P5GD1 Motherboard
Intel P4 3.0ghz HT
512 MB RAM
Asus Extreme 6600 (GeForce 6600 chipset)
D-Link DWL-G520 Wireless Card (Atheros chipset)
Kubuntu 6.10

I'll be attaching log files and the output of the various commands I was
given to run in this bug report as replies to this:
