I understand your reasoning. But if Ubuntu wants to attract people, the first steps must work, be as easy and not painful. If there are some glitches afterwards, it is not so important (I think). I am still using Ubuntu and am happy with the performance. I don't mind some problems, but I can't recommend anybody to migrate (from Outlook, ...) yet ...
