Public bug reported:

Card type/model : nVidia Corporation MCP79 High Definition Audio (rev b1)
found on MacBook Pro 5,5 (and other similar series)

Until kernel 2.6.31-19, the sound works well when compiling alsa-driver
from snapshot. Following insctructions found on this page for example :
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBookPro5-3/Karmic#Sound

Since 2.6.31-20 update, the sound card is not recognized at all. After the
update, I did remove :
sudo rm -rf /lib/modules/2.6.31-20/kernel/sound
and reinstall the linux headers
sudo aptitude reinstall linux-headers-2.6.31-20 linux-image-2.6.31-20
Then rebooted and recompiled the alsa-driver (from snapshot).

No sound. Issuing the alsamixer command returns that : No mixer elems
found. Everything is empty in every alsa cli or gui, just as if I had
removed the audio card.

Booting back in 2.6.31-29, sounds works well.
