I tried to test this using the Lucid Lynx alpha 3 live cd, but I could
not get to a graphical login screen. As it booted, it displayed the
message, "could not write bytes: broken pipe," and then a blank screen
with four blinking dots at the top. I got to a terminal with <alt><f6>,
but the characters were illegible. There appeared to be four identical
columns of text on the screen, each with a login line and blinking
cursor. The text was distorted in the same way as the text in
Matthias's terminal:

http://launchpadlibrarian.net/10924129/Capture-
Xubuntu%20Hardy%20%5BEn%20fonction%5D%20-%20innotek%20VirtualBox.png

except more blurred and difficult to read.

As reported earlier, I've got a Dell Latitude CPi with device identified
as Neomagic Corporation NM2200 [MagicGraph 256AV] (rev 20).
