@Robert: You're right, I didn't think of limiting the number of digits after the decimal point. I guess this is really useful for the Financial View! For the Scientific View or in general with Output Format 'Scientific' or 'Engineering' it is definitely more common to limit the number of significant figures. (I am an engineer, so this explains why I see here a bug ;-)
The best would be to have both 'significant figures' and 'decimal places' in the Preferences, and the latter would only affect the Financial View. But... A problem with 'decimal places' for financiers: I recently helped setting up a web-shop and found that a big issue for countries like Switzerland is that prices should be rounded to multiples of 0.05. I had to patch the web-shop to show 1.30103 decimal places! This works but is weired. I'd prefer to specify the 0.05 directly. Therefore I propose to enhance the Preferences like this: ... [x] Show thousands separators Show up to [ 20 ] significant figures Financial View: Limit accuracy to [ 0.05 ] ____________________________________ -- Increase maximum number of decimal places from 9 to 20 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/534810 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
