Fix found by Fish: Disabling splash in the bootloader fixes it

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/plymouth/+bug/518559/comments/11

Which involves:

1. in terminal: sudo gedit /etc/default/grub
2. remove "splash" from the line: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
3. save and close gedit, then type sudo update-grub
4. reboot and all should be good.

** Description changed:

During bootup the screen will display the ubuntu logo and then will
appear to load gdm but essentially freeze however pressing any random
key will cause the bootup to continue and the gdm/login will show.
+
+ I have an Acer Aspire One ZG5
+
+ //
+
+ 1) Power on machine.
+ 2) Select Lucid distro from GRUB
+ 3) Plymouth loads, shows the purple screen with the Ubuntu logo and some
blinking red dots
+ 4) Problem: The "login drums" sound plays and I'm on a black screen with a
cursor at the upper-left and my mouse cursor confined to a terminal-sized
rectangle. Pressing keys will write gibberish characters to the terminal.
+ 5) When I finally press "Enter", then the login screen comes up. System
continues normally, I can log in, no more problems (related to this bug, at
least.)
+
+ It's an annoying but nonfatal bug, ought to be fixed for the final
+ release.
+
+ I directly upgraded from Karmic (a three-month old version) to this
+ release. If it's important, I'm also using ntfs-config and netbook-
+ launcher (but UNE isn't my primary desktop.)
+
+ Machine is an Acer Aspire One 250 netbook.
