Marc: New for me, too. Plymouth is new as a standard feature, if I'm not
mistaken, and many are working to minimize the number of times the
screen flashes or clears and on getting boot processes to start as early
as possible to minimize boot time.

If you don't mind me asking, what version of plymouth are you running?
Can you look to see if /usr/share/initramfs-tools/conf-hooks.d/plymouth
exists and if so what it contains. It should probably not exist. If it
does exist it probably contains just two lines.
