Odds are it was switched on during your installation and various things got 
installed to support it.  Even if the device is disabled, there is a 
possibility it would still be "found" during installation and those network 
things would get installed.

My guess is your hang on shutdown is being caused because you don't have your 
built in 3G configured correctly (if that is even possible) and the network 
shutdown is waiting for a response it never gets.

You need to close this bug.

Once you spend a lot of time in the networking forums looking for how to 
correctly configure your built in 3G modem, you will either solve your problem 
or you will find an existing bug report to attach your information to.
