Public bug reported:

I have just set up Sunbird. I have it connected to 17 Google Calendars,
none of which are massively full of events, and some of which have
almost nothing in them at all. We are talking here about a combined
total of 400 events, or a lot less even. Yet every time I do the
simplest thing, such a toggling the show/hide option, Sunbird takes
several seconds to redraw the display and CPU time shoots to 40% on my
2-core 15GHz processor. CPU usage is very high quite a lot of the time
actually, although I have not worked out what else is triggering it.

Obviously this figure is way too high and close to the upper limit of
usability, and it needs to be brought down a lot.
