Same happens to me. I initially thought I had a faulty update,but even after a clean install of lucid the problem persists. Funny,though that I don't experience it on the Live-USB or CD... I'm not sure if it's relevant, but I've selected the "Auto-Login on startup" option at System\Administration\Login Screen.
