In /etc/pam.d/common-password, there's a comment that read :
# (Add `md5' after the module name to enable MD5 passwords)
I am not sure this is 100% correct. My understanding is that the
arguments in these stanza are to be interpreted by the module itself,
which may or may not handle the "md5" argument. Among other, I am
fairly certain that the pam_ldap.so module ignore that argument.
The comment should be either removed, or made specific to the
pam_unix.so module.
