We have been successfully using a xen hypervisor 4.0.0-rc3 build on Ubuntu 9.10. I would think that packaging either this version or 3.4.x as an interim xen server release for Ubuntu would be a desirable option as it would provide a viable migration pack from 8.04 Xen servers.
