I can confirm the same rendering problems on a ATI Mobility Radeon 7000 IGP. Much of the problems were solved by adding the following to the "Device" section of my xorg.conf:
Option "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps" Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True" I'm not sure wether both options are needed. Totem did still have problems though, the video display area went black. While resizing the window, some images of the movie do appear though.
