Can you please do
sudo mv /lib/udev/udisks-probe-ata-smart{,.disabled}
and unplug/replug the device, and check if it still happens? (This
requires that you are running current lucid).
Also, please run "apport-collect 540599" to attach information about
your hardware. Please use "ubuntu-bug linux" to file kernel bugs in the
future. Thanks!
