I want to join the team and say that this bug is ANNOYING the hell out of me.
It's like the original poster said: The computer halts for 30 seconds and the HD led goes lit, after that it resumes normal operation. I tried the CD-ROM workaround but it doesn't work. Right after when I issue dmesg, similiar SATA errors come up in the screen. I have a SAMSUNG 160GB HD161HJ, in Normal IDE Mode in BIOS. Ubuntu Karmic 9.10 Linux orion 2.6.31-20-generic #58-Ubuntu SMP Fri Mar 12 05:23:09 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux My filesystem are all ext3. So I don't think this is ext4 related at all.
