Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Using 10.04 Beta. Recommended nvidia driver (though I saw the same
behaviour with the default driver.)

I right click the top panel, select properties and change orientation to
Left. The power (logout) icon should now be in the bottom left hand
corner, but it has vanished. The only way to get the icon back is to
change the orientation back to Top or Bottom.
