Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala

running:
"tail -f ~/.xsession-errors"

shows the following message then crackling happens in VLC:
"[0x9cea1a0] pulse audio output: No. of Audio Channels: 2"

and it keeps repeating like this:

What does it mean?
