This seems to be very similar to a bug I reported when upgrading to kernel 2.6.31-20.57 (bug #533970). Again, I had to temporarily remove any instances of the file nvidia-common from the /etc/kernel directory hierarchy, then run sudo apt-get -f install, and then recopy nvidia- common back into /etc/kernel/postinst.d/ and /etc/kernel/header_postinst.d/. I'm guessing this is the same problem, but thought it worth noting that it's still a problem in build #58 as well as build #57.
