I have now booted off a USB stick with Lucid build from today 3/23/2010
17:21pm, and when I boot there is no sound. Selecting
System->Preferences->Sound->Hardware shows Dummy Output/Stereo" as
yesterday. I started application Rhythmbox and was playing songs from my
library. There was no sound audible, either from the speakers or from my
headphones. I then started the procedure to produce another verbose log.
Entering the first coimmand line "echo autospawn..." had no effect on
the sound. When I entered the second command "killall audiopulse", the
sound came back. However, Select Sound still shows "Dummy Output/Stereo"
but the keyboard buttons (mute, volume up/down) work. At first Select
Sound produced the warning that it was waiting for the sound system to
respond but then it does after a few minutes.
