Well, it seems now the ~/.ubuntuone folder was magically created and I can see the files in rhythmbox (and they are showing as transferred). Nautilus does not show them however. It seems that going to the web interface corrected most of the problems I was having....

I logged in with my existing ubuntu one account and I purchased songs via rhythmbox. I use a transparent proxy (squid). Browsing and previews worked fine. After purchasing, rhythmbox tells me 'Transferring to your Ubuntu One - storage', but it never completes. I can browse to my Ubuntu One folder - in nautilus and add files to it fine.
