[similar to bugs #28812 and 33173] System --> Preferences --> Printing gives the following error dialog window:
"The CUPS server could not be contacted." The Synaptic Package Manager shows several 'cups' packages loaded: including 4 cupsys-*, several foomatic-*, gimp-print, gnome-cups-manager, and others. Last night (March13) after installing Feisty Apha and 488 updates I was able to add a printer Epson-Stylus CX3810 (It was on ubuntu's list and I could change properties, etc., but it didn't actually print, see bug#17610 for additional input). And cups did generate a printer.conf file. This morning (March 14) after ~25 more updates (that didn't completely install), I can't access the printing system. Terminal log with suggested fix (that didn't work) $ sudo gedit /etc/cups/client.conf Password: $ sudo /etc/init.d/cupsys restart * Restarting Common Unix Printing System: supsd cupsd: Child exited with status 2! $ The file client.conf was empty so I inserted: ServerName localhost This did not allow me to access Printing I also tried "http://localhost:631/" but got "could not connect" I was going to send some config files as the bugzilla troubleshooter requested to anyone who still had the problem, but I don't have the directory /etc/cups/cups.d in which two of the requested files would have been located. (That could be part of the problem.) but I am attaching the cupsd.conf ** Attachment added: "/etc/cups/cupsd.conf" http://librarian.launchpad.net/6805300/cupsd.conf -- CUPS server could not be contacted https://launchpad.net/bugs/16825 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
