Thanks for the rapid reply. I keep my computer on 24/7. As of the last Feisty update it has been shutting itself down. I haven't actually caught this process but have left it idle for a couple hours to run errands. Upon my return the cpu has shutdown. I have made no changes in the operation of the of the unit. That is, I haven't made any changes to the system to cause this. When I restart the unit it boots directly to the Ubuntu desktop and opens my Home Folder. I don't have to login or type my password to gain access. Then if I reboot the unit it will do a normal boot with login screen. In other words a normal boot process.
This happened to me once before. My solution was to reinstall Feisty and all was well until this particular update then it started again. Thought it may have been caused by something I had done but apparently not. Hope this makes some sort of sense to you. Richard O.
