VNC was it - I killed the following process:

me 1516 0.9 0.5 10656 5556 ? S 18:49 0:01 Xvnc :1
-desktop me-netbook:1 (me) -auth /home/me/.Xauthority -geometry 800x600
-depth 16 rfbwait 30000 -rfbauth /home/me/.vnc/passwd -rfbport 5901 -pn
-extension XFIXES

and the segfaults in /var/log/messages stopped.

So the next question is - how do I run a VNC session on this box WITHOUT
it invoking netbook-launcher and segfaulting it every second? That
session WAS working when I Xrdp'ed into the box, incidentally...
