I know this is marked as a duplicate of bug #492301, but this is
slightly different.
I used the same method to create the live USB with lucid beta 1 and had
the same problem above.
The problem was that there were some hidden files that I missed when
copying to the USB. If in Ubuntu/ Nautilus press <ctrl>+h to see the
hidden files and make sure you copy these as well.
