Yes, a segfault in plymouth is certainly a bug.  Can you boot the system
using rescue media (i.e., an ISO image), edit the /etc/fstab to comment
out the vmhgfs line, and see whether this allows you to boot?

Once booted into the system, please check whether this plymouth crash
was reported to apport, and if so, please submit the report so we can
see a backtrace from the plymouth crash.

If there's no crash report, please run 'apport-collect 549653' from the
affected system.
